CONTEXT

PROJECT AIM: This project will provide me with an opportunity to make use of my skills, knowledge, and understanding. I will need to use all of my previously learned skills from past projects to reach the goal of this project at a high standard through the completion of a collaborative project. The project will provide me with a level of self-direct learning, and enable me to clarify my long-term goals through the choice of an activity to explore in greater depth.

As I look into more depth for the brief that I will choose to complete this task I will develop my skills to a professional standard as a producer, songwriter, and overall artist.

I will need to research using different sources such as; books, websites, masterclasses, and videos. I will then need to put this research into practice and evaluate the outcome to finalize my research.

I may work independently or in a group to undertake the project that inspires me. Although it must involve some form of collaboration (working with others in some capacity).

In project 4 task 2 I highlighted 3 possible projects I could undertake to a professional standard using the sources I have been given y the college. i.e Cubase, studio equipment (microphones or instruments), and the studio itself.

The 3 projects are:

songwriting and composing
holding a live performance
composing and arranging for film

After looking at these possible projects in task 2 of project 4, I decided on composing and arranging for a film. But after careful consideration, I have decided to undertake the challenge of songwriting and composing for an EP. I feel like have a better chance of achieving my goal of getting a distinction in this project by doing this because if I wrote a score for a media student I could be restricted by their ability to create an up-to-standard video that is equal to my score.

Communication is a crucial part of this project. Learning from past projects a lack of communication was a leading factor in what went wrong, for example, in the live performance in project 3 there was a lack of communication in rehearsal and in the songwriting task in project 2 there was a lack of communication when writing the song. Communication would also be vital when writing a score. Because the filmmaker and score writer would need to communicate to know what each other wants to create.

This project will enable me to showcase my skills as an artist in the aspects of my; Teamwork skills, musicianship, recording, production, mixing, mastering, collaboration, setting goals, songwriting/composition, and time management.

In project 4 task 1 I show where my skill level is in different categories and where I need to improve. My goal or the end of this task is to be competent or at least every category and highly skilled in most of them.

From past experience in using DAW interfaces, I am confident in my ability to record and write songs. Although my skills using these interfaces rapidly improve during project 1. This will be extremely useful for me while completing this task, I would like my skills in this area to improve even more while carrying out this project also.

From past experiences I have been lacking in handing in projects on time and to a good standard, I would like to improve my punctuality moving forward in this task, demonstrating that I have the ability to undertake this project and complete it at a distinction level.

During this task, I would like to improve my knowledge of production. I plan on researching further into this aspect and improving the abilities that I already have.

I would like to research further into mixing and mastering. This will allow me to carry my goals of creating a well-produced and well-mixed EP.
