TASK 2

For this task I will be assessing different ideas for my FMP: The options being

COMPOSING AND ARRANGING FOR FILM:

The skills that will be necessary for composing a film will include an extended knowledge of music theory. An ability to understand how to crate emotions for seitan sense(otherwise known as spotting). I'd need to understand the genre of film to e able to create the appropriate score for the film. I'd need to be aware of the dynamics to suit the appropriate sense to hear the dialogue and sound effects on top of the music.

It is crucial to research the film you will be scoring to have an understanding of the characters to create themes for the main characters and for the climax of the film.

I learned from this video and the website, that creativity is a big part of composing. I learnt that creating simple themes for your score is important to set the mood of the film and to make it memorable for the listener.

This video teaches film scoring in depth explaining what is necessary to crate an epic score

Recoding and creating and album of 8-10 songs:

To complete this task I would need extrema time management to create all 10 songs. I would need to know how to use the equipment in the studio in more depth. I'd need knowledge of mixing editing and mastering my music quickly and effectively. I would need basic understanding of production and what an album is.

I don't have a lot of experience in producing songs so this would be something I would need to work on to be able to create an album. although I do have some experience in creating songs on the piano and guitar without recording and production.

These videos will tell you everything you will need to know about writing and producing an album.

Live performance

To have a successful live performance I would need the confidence and stage presence to perform. I would need musical skills to play my instruments and have good dynamic control. I would need to communicate with different band members and perform to a good standard with other musicians.  I would need to promote myself as a musician to become more well known.

Writing and recording an EP

Unlike writing an album an EP consists of fewer songs which makes it a more sensible and realistic target for my FMP.

"An EP is a medium-length album that has a fewer number of songs than an LP or full-length album, usually 4 to 6 songs long. This definition strays far away from its original one, so what does EP mean in music?"

To successfully complete this task I would need the following skills:

  •  knowing how to use the studio

  • mixing and mastering

  • knowledge of the equipment

  • general knowledge of studio production

EVALUATION

After researching these 4 different possible projects I've decided to further research composing and arranging for a film.  In my opinion, this is the best project for me because my skills match what is needed to accomplish what is being asked to complete the project.
